The establishment of the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) was mandated in 2012 by the outcome document of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), "The Future We Want". The format and organizational aspects of the Forum are outlined in General Assembly resolution 67/290.The Forum meets annually under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council for eight days, including a three-day ministerial segment and every four years at the level of Heads of State and Government under the auspices of the General Assembly for two days.More information

The countries of Latin America and the Caribbean will hold on March 15-18, 2021 the fourth meeting of the Forum on Sustainable Development, in which representatives of governments, international institutions, the private sector, academia and civil society will review the progress and challenges related to implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the region. This gathering, to be held virtually for the first time, will be inaugurated on Tuesday, March 16 at 8 a.m. local time in Costa Rica (GMT-6) by Carlos Alvarado, the President of Costa Rica, which currently holds ECLAC’s presidency pro tempore; Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations; Munir Akram, President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC); and Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
