Russian Federation and WFP provide food to vulnerable Palestinians

JERUSALEM – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) started delivering fortified wheat flour for 72,000 people of the most vulnerable families in Gaza and the West Bank people for nine months, thanks to a US$4 million grant from the Russian Federation.
WFP used the funds to purchase 5,076 tons of wheat flour from Russia. Wheat flour is a key component of WFP’s food ration it distributes to Bedouin and herding communities in the West Bank and other vulnerable families in Gaza, alongside pulses, vitamin-rich vegetable oil and iodized salt.

Sustainable sources of income and having enough to eat help vulnerable rural populations to stay home and not be forced to migrate, United Nations World Food Programme executive director David Beasley said Monday following visit to Central America.
“When you don’t have food to feed your children, when you don’t have money to buy medicines you are pushed into desperation”, said Beasley.
“People don’t want to leave their homes, they are being forced to, he underlined.
During his visit, Beasley met families affected by climate change coupled with job losses and rising inequality, a fallout of COVID-19, Rome-based WFP said in a statement.

Dubai: To help fight global hunger, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) has donated Dh1 million to UAE’s ‘100 Million Meals’, the region’s largest food donation campaign this Ramadan.
The campaign, launched on April 11, continues to collect donations from companies and individuals inside and outside the UAE. Every Dh1 contributed can provide a meal to beneficiaries in targeted countries across the Arab region, Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.
