DUBAI, 3 hours, 21 minutes ago The UAE’s Ramadan campaign has secured 216 million meals, more than double its target, for vulnerable groups in 30 countries across four continents, announced HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign, the region’s biggest food distribution drive, concluded on Saturday after drawing massive donations from 385,000 individuals, companies, businessmen and philanthropists across 51 countries through various donation channels and two charity auctions. Funds raised will help distribute food parcels, equivalent to 216 million meals, to people in need across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.

The UAE’s 100 Million Meals campaign that sought to distribute 100 million meals to beneficiaries in 30 countries during the month of Ramadan has now achieved over double its target.
Donations from 385,000 individuals, private and public companies and businessmen across 51 countries helped secure food parcels equivalent to 216 million meals.

Acute food insecurity soars to five-year high: UN report

Brussels: The number of people facing acute food insecurity and needing urgent life and livelihood-saving assistance has hit a five-year high in 2020 in countries beset by food crises, an annual report launched by the Global Network Against Food Crises (GNAFC) has found.
GNAFC is an international alliance of the UN, the EU, governmental and non-governmental agencies working to tackle food crises together.
The stark warning from the 2021 Global Report on Food Crises shows that conflict or economic shocks that are often related to COVID-19 along with extreme weather are continuing to push millions of people into acute food insecurity.
