China, India miss UN climate change agency deadline

BERLIN, Germany: China and India missed a U.N. deadline to submit new plans detailing how they will reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
China and India were among dozens of countries that did not update their targets for curbing the release of greenhouse gases to the U.N. climate change agency by July 31.
China emits the highest level of greenhouse gases in the world, followed by the United States and India.
The United States submitted new emission targets in April.
Meanwhile, U.N. climate chief Patricia Espinosa praised the 110 signatories of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change who did submit new emission goals. However, she said it was far from satisfactory that only 58 percent had submitted their new targets on time.
