Flooding and heat waves would be the two most pressing risks to Southlanders if mitigation options are not adopted. The report recommends a variety of mitigation options be adopted. Various technology and innovation options were suggested, with focus being placed on the agricultural industry given its high contribution to Southland’s GDP and total emissions. Agriculture currently emits 69 per cent of Southland’s total overall emissions, and has the largest changes to make in order to hit targets, according to the report.
