Commonwealth nations target inclusive shift to clean energy IANS 2 hours ago © IANS Commonwealth nations target inclusive shift to clean energy New Delhi, May 15 (IANS) The Second Commonwealth Sustainable Energy Forum concluded with strong recommendations for member countries to work together to fast-track an inclusive, just and equitable transition to low-carbon energy systems across the Commonwealth. The biennial gathering, held virtually over May 12-14, explored practical solutions to help meet global commitments on energy made under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Participants discussed new low-carbon technologies, addressing the high cost of technology and need for better access to finance, as well as policy recommendations that promote sustainability in the electricity, transport, cooling and cooking sectors.

A LEIGH headteacher is setting up a virtual parliament for hundreds of children to debate climate change. Peter Spencer-Lane, head of Saint Pierre School on Leigh Road, Leigh, is the headteacher champion for the UK’s “House of Children” virtual parliament. This will see 650 child MPs debate climate change in October. The initiative has been set up by Microsoft, The Big Issue and content organising firm Wakelet, allowing children aged seven to 13 to debate and vote on critical issues such as climate change. The topic will be put to a vote by the children by the Child ‘Speaker of the House’ at the end of virtual parliamentary session.
