Joe Biden has made clear the primary goal of his first international trip as president this week is to signal that America is back on the world stage.
But he will also warn Britain and Europe not to imperil peace in Northern Ireland.
He will use his tour to rally democracies in an ideological and economic struggle against China and Russia. Making clear to [Vladimir] Putin and China that Europe and the United States are tight, Mr Biden, the US president, said when asked the goal of his busy trip to Britain, Belgium and Switzerland, where he will meet the Russian leader.
