Siddharth Chatterjee appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in China

3096 United Nations, December 16 UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed senior UN official Siddharth Chatterjee of India as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in China. Resident Coordinators are the UN Secretary-General s representatives for development at the country level. They lead UN teams supporting countries to recover better from the COVID-19 pandemic through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Guterres appointed Chatterjee as the Resident Coordinator in China, with the host government s approval. Chatterjee s appointment follows confirmation from the Host Government, where he will take up his post in the middle of January of next year, Spokesman for the Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric said on Tuesday as he made the announcement.

Senator Floyd Morris made this call while delivering the keynote address at a virtual lecture and panel discussion to mark Human Rights Day 2020. The newly elected member of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Senator Dr Floyd Morris is calling on the Government of Jamaica to speed up implementation of the Disabilities Act (2014) to ensure that the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs) are protected. While acknowledging that work is ongoing to complete the relevant regulations and codes of practice to guide implementation of the law, he said a consistent and aggressive public education programme must precede its roll-out to help Jamaicans accept and understand that persons with disabilities have the same fundamental rights as other citizens.

Subsequently a number of efforts have been made by the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the international community to identify the locations of the displaced population and assess their needs through process of registration and targeted needs assessments. In this endeavour an Information Management Working Group led by the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office jointly with UNHCR and with the active participation of IOM out has been set up to coordinate the needs assessment efforts.
