Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar inaugurated a 15-day typhoid vaccination campaign at a hotel on Wednesday.
During the first phase starting February 1, children aged nine months to 15 years will be vaccinated in 12 districts.
The second phase of the drive will begin in May to vaccinate 19.3 million children in urban areas of 24 other districts.
Representatives of the World Health Organisation and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund also spoke on the occasion while Health Adviser Hanif Pitafi, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Culture Firdous Ashiq Awan and others attended the ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister thanked the stakeholders for their cooperation and expressed hope the typhoid conjugate vaccine will protect the children from the fatal disease.

New Delhi [India], January 27 (ANI): Famous French musician and DJ David Guetta will perform a live-streamed concert from the top of the iconic Burj Al Arab in Dubai as part of the fourth leg of his United At Home charity series.
The musical event, which is being held virtually, will be available to stream on February 6, this year. The performance is aimed at raising funds for supporting UNICEF (United Nations International Children s Emergency Fund), and Dubai Cares Education Uninterrupted campaign.
Following the strict social distancing measures in place, the organisers have arranged live streaming of the event on Guetta s social media handles, free of charge for fans around the globe.

The United Nations International Children s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has provided Ukraine with 1.2 million polymerase chain reaction tests (PCR).
Health Minister, Maksym Stepanov, has said this at a briefing, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The minister said that all the said test systems were produced in the United Kingdom.
Currently, they are kept at the warehouses of the Ukrvaktsyna state-run enterprise.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, On January 26, a total of 27,041 polymerase chain reaction tests (PCR) were conducted, up 63% over January 25; and the number of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) rose 30% over January 25 to 20,079.
Since the start of the year, a total of 6,152,298 polymerase chain reaction tests have been conducted.
