Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to “direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN, and appropriate anti-corruption agencies to investigate allegations that $30m safe school fund is missing, mismanaged or diverted, and to bring to justice anyone suspected to be involved, as well as recover any missing money.”
SERAP urged him to “direct Mr Malami and appropriate anti-corruption agencies to investigate why the Safe Schools Initiative, established to bolster security at schools in response to the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls has failed to stop frequent abductions of students, and to ensure the safety and security of Nigerian children in schools across the country.”
The federal government has initiated a coordinated approach to financing and implementing an integrated safe schools programme across the country, which is government-led and is tailored to the current realities. Prior to the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nigeria accounted for approximately 20 per cent of the global out-of-school population. With an estimated 13 million children currently out of school in the country, Nigeria sits in the precipice of a socio-economic disaster and a full education crisis, if there is no coordinated action to stop the current wave of systematic attacks on the fundamental rights of children to a safe learning environment.

Vietnam s Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son stressed the importance of restraint, a halt to violence, humanitarian support, use of dialogue and the central role of ASEAN in addressing Myanmar crisis.
During a meeting with the United Nations Special Envoy on Myanmar Christine Schraner Burgener in Indonesia on the sidelines of the ASEAN leaders’ summit Saturday, Son said Vietnam is closely following developments in Myanmar and is playing an active part, together with ASEAN, in looking for the most suitable solutions to deal with its ongoing crisis.
