UN special envoy warns about global aftermaths of Syria s conflict UN special envoy warns about global aftermaths of Syria s conflict United Nations, Dec 16 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, on Wednesday assured that the country could be a powder keg for a major international incident, as five foreign armies are operating there. In a report to the Security Council, the UN high representative pointed out that although there is a fragile calm now, it is still far from the ceasefire at a national level, decreed by the UN Resolution 2254. The UN calls for an end to hostilities in Syria in order to protect civilians, keep peace and security, support a political process and concentrate forces to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
