World Happiness Report ( WHR) 2021 The WHR 2021 was released by the UNSDSN. UNSDSN stands for United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. For the findings of the WHR the study of 149 countries was made. India stood at 139th position. In the series this is the 9th WHR. The report in 2022 will be Decennial WHR. Bhutan in the world is the first country who is champion in the race of human wellness, wellbeing, welfare and happiness. Bhutan said the social and economic development has no meaning and rather it is rightly immeasurable, if the significance of happiness and wellbeing is not taken in to account. Bhutan is the first country in the world who for the last number of years is working regularly on Gross National Happiness ( GNH), besides traditional GNP / GDP. Finland is the world’s happiest country fourth year in a row! So says the World Happiness Report, produced by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. The United States ranks 14th, right behind Ireland and ahead of Canada.
The authors based their conclusions on interviews with more than 350,000 people in 95 countries. One of their questions was “Did you smile . . . a lot yesterday?”
Had I been asked that, I might have said, “Yes, I smiled at a report making impossible comparisons based on questionable markers for contentment. By the way, what do you mean by ‘happiness’?”
