Security Council strongly condemns terrorist attack in Afghanistan

UNITED NATIONS, May 3 (Xinhua) The United Nations Security Council on Monday strongly condemned Friday s attack in Pul-e-Alam, capital of Afghanistan s eastern Logar province, which killed at least 21 people, including high school students, with many others wounded. In a press statement, the members of the Security Council expressed their sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Afghan government, wishing the injured a speedy and full recovery. Terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, the Council members said.

The U.N. Security Council expressed concern on Thursday about the humanitarian situation in Ethiopiaâs Tigray region, particularly abuse of women and girls, a week after the U.N. aid chief said sexual violence was being used as a weapon of war.
It was the first public statement by the 15-member council, which has been briefed five times privately on the conflict, since fighting between Ethiopia s federal government troops and Tigray s former ruling party began in November.
