04/22/2021 | Press release | Distributed by Public on 04/22/2021 22:04 Escazú Agreement Enters into Force in Latin America and the Caribbean on International Mother Earth Day The States Parties to the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Justice in Environmental Matters in Latin America and the Caribbean - known as the Escazú Agreement - celebrated the treaty s entry into force this Thursday, April 22, on precisely the same date on which International Mother Earth Day is commemorated. Having reached the required number of ratifications on January 22, 2021, in accordance with the conditions stipulated under Article 22, all of the Escazú Agreement s provisions go into effect as of today. To date, 24 countries in the region have signed the accord and 12 have already ratified it, becoming States Parties to the treaty.

Turkmenistan elected UNECE Vice Chair AKIPRESS.COM - The 69th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) was held from April 20 to 21 in Geneva. The event brought together representatives at the level of ministers and deputy ministers from UNECE member countries to exchange best practices in the field of circular economy and set its course over the next two years, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said. During the high-level segment on circular economy and sustainable use of natural resources in the UNECE region, Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Muhammetgeldi Serdarov made a speech. In his speech, Minister Serdarov noted that the transition to circular economy based on maximizing added value will be possible if control over reserves of natural resources is strengthened and a sustainable balance of renewable resources is observed to preserve and maintain natural capital at an inexhaustible level.
