Mexican authorities have arrested a former governor on charges that he ordered police to torture a reporter who investigated his alleged role in a pedophilia ring, an official said Thursday. Mario Marín, ex-governor of Puebla, was apprehended at his home in Acapulco, on Wednesday, according to Interior Secretary Olga Sánchez Cordero. Marín, of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, governed Puebla from 2005 to 2011, and was expected to appear before a judge in Cancún on Thursday. He was a close friend of textile magnate José Nacif, also considered a fugitive. Journalist Lydia Cacho had reported on Marín s role as political protector of the pedophilia ring operated by Nacif and fellow businessman Jean Kuri, and published a book titled Los demonios del Eden or The Demons of Eden in 2004.
