On 10 December 2020, IOM MENA co-organized a webinar on Expanding Universal Health Coverage among refugees and migrants: Challenges and Opportunities together with WHO EMRO, UNHCR MENA, and UNRWA to commemorate the Universal Health Coverage Day. At the round table discussion, Dr. Chiaki Ito, Regional Migration Health Specialist emphasized that no one will be safe if migrants are not included in health care systems ensuring health for all.

Representatives of the non-governmental sector in the cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Aktau and Karaganda, carried out activities among the population in cooperation with city Akimats, police departments and other partner organizations. IOM signed a Memorandum on Cooperation on Migration in Kazakhstan. In the framework of the Memorandum between the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and IOM, research, trainings on international migration issues, as well as the preparation of educational materials and trainings of civil servants from the southern and northern regions of the country will be carried out in Kazakhstan.

Domestic workers, in particular, have been highly vulnerable as a result of containment measures and the lack of effective social security coverage.
