KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 30 (Reuters) - The United States banned imports of palm oil from Malaysian producer Sime Darby Plantation from Wednesday over allegations of forced labour in the production process, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said.
The ban on Sime Darby, the world s largest palm oil company by landsize and seen as a leader in sustainably produced palm oil, is another blow to an industry that has faced mounting allegations of labour and human rights abuses.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 ― FGV Holdings Bhd had assisted 1,084 of its migrant workers to return to their home countries from March to December 2020, despite challenges in global travel restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement, FGV said of them, 661 were from Indonesia, 295 (India), 126 (Bangladesh) and two (Nepal).
For FGV’s migrant workers from India, their returns were facilitated through the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur during this period.

On Dec. 18, prosecutors from the U.S. Justice Department charged a China-based Zoom executive with conspiring to terminate Zoom meetings this year that commemorated the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre at the Chinese government’s behest. The 47-page complaint contains detailed exchanges between the executive and employees at Zoom’s California headquarters this year.
