UN Body Opines That Safoora Zargarâs Arrest Violated International Treaties Signed by India
The Working Group said that given Zargar s medical condition, there âwas no necessity for an urgent arrest of the student activist, however serious the chargesâ.

New Delhi: The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (UNWGAD) has termed the arrest and custody of Jamia Millia Islamia student Safoora Zargar a violation of the Universal declaration of human rights and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which India is a party.
Zargar was first arrested by the Special Cell on April 10, in connection with FIR 48/2020 filed in the Jaffarabad road-block case. She was granted bail in the case on April 13 but on the same day, her name was added to FIR 59/2020 issued on February 24, and she was arrested again.

A human rights group has called for the release of six political activists who have been arbitrarily arrested in Bahrain.
In a statement published on its website on Monday, the Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) rights group called for the immediate release of Ali Mahdi Alaiwi, Hasan Nesaif, Habib Hasan Yusuf, Ali Fakhrawi, Mohamed Fakhrawi, and Nooh Abdulla Al Amroom, who were arrested between May 2011 and September 2015.

Saudi rights activists launch hunger strike in jail
Detained Saudi human rights activists reportedly staged a hunger strike in Riyadh’s Al-Ha ir Prison on 6 March.
Maha al-Qahtani, wife of Mohammed al-Qahtani, one of the founders of the opposition Hasm movement, said her husband and about 30 other people had started a hunger strike, including human rights defenders Fawzan al-Harbi and Aissa al-Nukhaifi.
Mohammed al-Qahtani, 55, is a Saudi economics professor, political activist, and one of the founding members of the Saudi Civil and Political Rights Association (ACPRA).
Qahtani was arrested in March 2013 and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
ACPRA members and more than 30 others are on hunger strike in al-Hair prison in Riyadh.
