The following New Year’s Message is from the United Progressive Party:
The year 2020 will carry many negative memories globally due to the COVID-19 pandemic and primarily the associated economic fallout.
The risks to which our own frontline and essential workers have been exposed highlights the commitment and discipline of Barbadians during a time of crisis. The United Progressive Party salutes you for your continued dedication to the survival of our nation.
The recent escalation in local transmission of the virus means it is imperative for the Government to prioritize the health and safety of our citizens while aiming to strike the delicate balance between potential economic gains and exponentially increasing our positive COVID-19 statistics. We recommend an immediate strengthening of the visitor protocols to eliminate apparent loopholes and also consider temporarily suspending arrivals from high risk countries.

The 2019 governorship candidate of United Progressive Party (UPP), Ogbuehi Dike, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to see 2021 as a year of progressive governance and action against insecurity ravaging the country. In a new year message he issued in Abuja, Ogbuehi also called on the Abia State Government to pay the salaries owed to workers in the state. “The heart cry of Abia State pensioners and workers for payment of backlog of pensions and salaries owed them by the government is deafening in the ears of patriotic Nigerians. At a time various State governments in the country are providing palliatives in addition to salaries of workers, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is insensitive to the plights and welfare of the workers.

Renewed calls for police to speed up Nigel Christian murder probe

The Political Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP) is making fresh calls for the authorities to speed up their investigations into the gruesome murder of Customs inspector, Nigel Christian.
Harold Lovell told Observer that the authorities do not seem to be concerned about Christian’s family, who will not be able to have a peaceful Christmas holiday.
“They have dragged their feet; nothing has happened and today the family of Nigel Christian will not have him to celebrate Christmas with them. It is a shame, it is shocking and we call on this administration to do something,” he said.

Some of the biggest winners in this most challenging year, 2020, were the healthcare workers and the first responders, they who daily placed their lives on the line to keep us healthy and safe. We’re talking about the doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and orderlies, and all the other support staff who worked assiduously behind the scenes to make sure that the process worked as best it could under very tough coronavirus circumstances. A grateful nation says thanks!
We also must salute and offer our thanks to the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Rhonda Sealey Thomas, the Chief Health Inspector, Sharon Martin, the Director of the Laboratory at the Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC), Dr Lester Simon, the Medical Director at the MSJMC, Dr. Albert Duncan, and the Minister of Health, Sir Molwyn Joseph.
