BJP to get around 84 seats in Assam, claims Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Minister and top BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that the party would get around 84 seats against the earlier target of 100 plus in the 126-member assembly. Sarma, pointsman of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Assam, said that there is no doubt that the BJP-led alliance would retain power in the state. Our earlier target was to win in 100 plus seats. But our present assessment is that the BJP would get in and around 84 seats. We are 100 per cent certain that the BJP-led alliance would form the government in Assam after the declaration of results (on May 2), he told the media in southern Tripura s Gomati district headquarters Udaipur.

12 seats in Bodoland could swing the polls | India News

GUWAHATI: Bodoland may well be the key to the formation of the next government in Assam. United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), BJP’s key ally in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), had last December ended Bodoland People’s Front’s (BPF) rule in the Bodoland Territorial Council. In the assembly elections this time, they teamed up with BJP to take on BPF and its ally, Congress. NDA’s win here could help it make up for possible losses it might incur in the Muslim majority constituencies. Of the total 12 seats in BTR, UPPL is contesting on eight and BJP on four. Though minority votes will make a difference in many of these seats, the BJP alliance is counting on the support of non-Bodo Hindus, often referred to as ‘Obodo’.
