Former Congress ministers Ajanta Neog and Gautam Roy got BJP tickets to contest from their old seats of Golaghat and Katighora, respectively. Neog and Gowala had joined the saffron party in December last year. Former Congress legislator Rajdeep Gowala, who was elected to the Assembly after winning in the 2016 elections from Lakhipur, has been denied a ticket by the BJP this time.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Jitendra Singh, on Friday ridiculed Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, stating that her recent visit to poll-bound Assam looked more like a film shoot as she plucked leaves at a tea estate there in the off-season. Priyanka Gandhi is choosing tea leaves in the off-season. It seems as if a film is being shot, the BJP leader told ANI on Friday. Recently, Gandhi had visited the tea gardens in Assam and got photographed while plucking tea leaves with a basket on her head.

The party workers renting slogans against the BJP accusing them of playing power centric politics have demanded that UPPL must project candidates in Paneri and Kalaigaon LAC in a friendly contest with BJP taking into consideration the grassroot suppprt of UPPL in the constituencies.
