SINGAPORE - The technique used to preserve food could prove to be a game changer in Singapore s fight against Covid-19 through the development of freeze-dried Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test kits, which would simplify storage and transportation requirements.
Local biotech company BioAcumen Global said the key benefit of lyophilisation, as the technique is called, is that it removes the need for refrigeration currently required for Covid-19 PCR test kits.
Freeze-dried kits can be kept at room temperature without any degradation.
BioAcumen Global officially opened its new lyophilisation facility on Tuesday (March 16).
It has the capacity to freeze-dry 2,400 PCR tests a day and hopes to double this capacity soon.
Cleveland Heights’ EC77 brand finds big audience
Updated Mar 17, 2021;
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio EC77, formerly known as Elusion Clothing, is a brand that’s sported by some of the biggest athletes in the country, but it started out as a small T-shirt business run out of Dani Merritt’s home in Cleveland Heights.
Merritt first founded Elusion Clothing about 15 years ago, inspired by an idea she first shared with friends at the University of Toledo in 2000. Merritt developed that idea when she moved home to attend school at Cuyahoga Community College in 2001.
Merritt created iron-on T-shirt designs from her home, sharing them with local DJs and athletes. Eventually, she said, the designs started to catch on with students at Cleveland Heights High School. She officially launched her business in 2006.

Egyptian troops have demolished more than 12,300 buildings in the Sinai Peninsula since 2013 in a campaign of forced evictions that likely amount to “war crimes”, according to United States-based group Human Rights Watch (HRW).
A decade-old rebellion in North Sinai province escalated in 2013 when the army overthrew Egypt’s first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsi.
“Between late 2013 and July 2020, the army destroyed at least 12,350 buildings, mostly homes, most recently in the El Arish area,” HRW said on Wednesday.
