CHARLESTON â Recent talk of combining metropolitan statistical areas (MSA) in southern West Virginia sounds like a good idea, but from a practical standpoint itâs a lot different, according to Terrell Ellis, executive director of Advantage Valley.
Advantage Valley Inc. is a private nonprofit economic development organization representing the Charleston and Huntington metropolitan statistical areas. The region includes Boone, Cabell, Clay, Kanawha, Lincoln, Putnam, Mason, Jackson and Wayne counties.
âThe United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the U.S. Census Bureau control MSA designations,â said Terrell Ellis, executive director of Advantage Valley in Charleston. âI think some people think you can just call up our congressional delegation and try to make that happen. After completing a lengthy Section 203 Feasibility Study Report with its own funds, the Greater Lafourche Port Commission received some great news regarding the passage of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2020.
The package of spending bills that Congress passed overnight including the WRDA Bill, which was a multi-thousand-page document that requires federal approval and the backing of delegation members, has given the port authorization to begin dredging Belle Pass, Bayou Lafourche, and the Northern Expansion to 30 feet in the coming years.
