United States Space Force reveals official name for troops

The United States Space Force has announced that after a year-long process, it has finally determined the name that its troops will be known by. Space Force soldiers will be known as Guardians. The process to choose that name was a year-long and waded through hundreds of submissions from space professionals and members of the general public.
The USSF says that the opportunity to name a force is a “momentous responsibility.” Officials within the organization say that Guardians is a name that has a long history in space operations. The term traces back to the Air Force Space Command’s original command motto from 1983, “Guardians of the High Frontier.”

Vice President Mike Pence announced that personnel in the Space Force will be called Guardians. He spoke during a White House event marking the first anniversary of the U.S. Space Force, yesterday.
“It is my honor, on behalf of the President of the United States, to announce that, henceforth, the men and women of the United States Space Force will be known as ‘Guardians, ” Pence said during the ceremonies. Let me urge each and every one of you Guardians to keep pushing. … Keep pushing the vision and the mission of the United States Space Force, which is to ensure that America remains as dominant in space.”

Space Force Members Will Be Called âGuardiansâ Mike Pence Announces

On Friday, Vice President Mike Pence announced that members of the Space Force military service will be called guardians.
“We just returned from the Oval Office and so it is my honor, on behalf of the President of the United States, to announce that henceforth, the men and women of the United States Space Force will be known as guardians,” Pence said at an event celebrating the Space Force’s first year.
The Space Force tweeted Friday that the name announcement came
“after a yearlong process that produced hundreds of submissions and research involving space professionals and members of the general public. Guardians is a name with a long history in space operations, tracing back to the original command motto of Air Force Space Command in 1983, ‘Guardians of the High Frontier.”
