The NFL honor is meant to highlight those who go above and beyond supporting America s military community.
ATLANTA - Atlanta Falcons executive Steve Cannon is the recipient of the NFL’s Salute to Service Award.
Now in its 10th year, the award recognizes exceptional efforts to honor and support members of the military community. It will be presented Saturday at NFL Honors, when The Associated Press announces its individual NFL awards.
USAA, a provider of insurance and other services to U.S. military members, veterans, and their families, will contribute $25,000 in Cannon’s honor to the official aid societies representing all five military branches. The NFL and Falcons owner Arthur Blank will match USAA’s donation of $25,000, which will be donated to Cannon’s military charity of choice, Johnny Mac Sol
Caleb Peterson of Barron has accepted to the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York.
Peterson said of the honor: âI would like to thank my parents, John and Carie Peterson; my grandparents, Don and Sandi Peterson and Jim and Mary Holmes; my hockey coaches, Curt Cutsforth, Jeremy Boe, Guy Evans and Brent Hilbert; and my church family at Maranatha Free Church.
âThey have been instrumental in pushing me forward and preparing me for the rigorous training at West Point. I also want to humbly thank the veterans who I know, the ones I donât, and the ones who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Your legacy has inspired me to dedicate myself to the American Freedoms you have protected so courageously.

The NFL and USAA, an official NFL Salute to Service partner, announced Steve Cannon, CEO of AMB Sports and Entertainment, the parent company of the Atlanta Falcons, as the recipient of the 2020 Salute to Serve Award presented by USAA.
Cannon was selected for his countless efforts to honor and support members of the military community. The Atlanta Falcons have now been recipients of this award four out of the last five years: Former head coach Dan Quinn (2016), Andre Roberts (2017) and Ben Garland (2018).
