Gov. Bill Lee has formally named a new head of the Department of Veterans Services. The previous commissioner resigned after an investigation showed she made homophobic and racist remarks to employees.
Lee on Thursday announced Maj. Gen. Tommy H. Baker, who most recently led in an interim capacity, as the new commissioner of the department.
Baker succeeds former commissioner Courtney Rogers, who resigned Nov. 25 after a human resources investigation found she reportedly subjected employees to abusive behavior, including calling her second-in-command at the department closeted homosexual.
Mark Goins, the deputy commissioner about whom Rogers made the remarks, was also investigated by HR and resigned the same day.
