A $7,500 prize for first place is unprecedented.
This week’s announcement of a new mixed division tournament, the Richmond Cup, turned heads thanks to the event’s $10,000 prize purse.
Set to be held on June 12-13, 2021, the tournament will feature 16 mixed club teams competing for a $7,500 first place prize. Second place will receive $2,000, and semifinalists will take home $250 each.
The tournament is being run by XII Brands, the parent company of VII Ultimate, Five Ultimate, and Aria Discs.
“We wanted to make some waves,” said XII President Todd Curran. “I feel like this is what ultimate has been waiting for. I’m hoping it will bring excitement and top-level talent to the event.”
