Recall Issued For Boneless Beef Products Due To Possible E Coli Contamination

Colorado-based JBS USA Food Company is recalling approximately 4,860 pounds of imported boneless beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced this week. According to the company, the frozen, boneless beef products were imported in November and later distributed for additional processing in New York and Pennsylvania. Only 60-pound cardboard boxes containing “95CL BONELESS BEEF PRODUCT OF AUSTRALIA” with “PACKED ON: 02-SEP-20” and Australian “EST. 4” on the packaging label.

Agriculture your username 6 hours ago On Thursday, commercial and institutional indirect purchase plaintiffs asked the Minnesota District Court for approval of a $12.75 million settlement with JBS USA in a antitrust lawsuit alleging that JBS and other pork processing companies including Hormel Foods, Smithfield Foods, and Tyson Foods participated in illegal antitrust activities.  The direct purchaser plaintiffs already reached a settlement with JBS for $24.5 million, that settlement was given approval by the judge in January. The plaintiffs involved in the currently pending settlement include restaurants and other parties who purchased pork from entities other than the defendants which was initially produced by the defendants.  Specifically, the class includes Sandee’s Bakery, Joe Lopez, Ziggy’s BBQ Smokehouse & Ice Cream Parlor, and others.

The frozen, boneless beef products were imported from Australia and shipped to distributors in New York and Pennsylvania on or around Nov. 10, 2020. While there have been no illnesses linked to the beef thus far, the department is concerned that some product may be frozen and in cold storage at distributor or further processor locations.
