Dec 30, 2020 3:08 PM Daytona Beach Shores, FL - Officers in Daytona Beach Shores and around Volusia County are mourning the loss of a young detective who passed away on Christmas Day. Darius Antonio DeBarros—of Cape Cod, Massachusetts—graduated from Seabreeze High School in 2014 before entering a career in law enforcement and public protection. DeBarros first started with Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue, which is when he became a member of the United States Lifesaving Association, where he competed and won the USLA Beach Flag National Championships. Three years later, DeBarros began to work for the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety (DBSDPS) as a police officer and an EMT. Shortly after he joined the agency, DeBarros also attended the fire academy and became a triple certified Public Safety Officer. In 2019, he became a member of the Southeast Volusia Regional SWAT team. Then, just this year, DeBarros was selected to become a detective
