SASKATOON The suspect of a Saskatoon homicide was arrested by the United States Border Patrol while attempting to cross into the U.S. unlawfully on Jan. 23, according to Saskatoon police. The Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section is working with authorities in an effort to have Afrah Ali returned to Saskatoon. Ali is charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Logan Nayneecassum. The Ahtahkakoop First Nation man was killed at a restaurant in the city s Lakewood neighbourhood following a dispute between numerous patrons, according to police. On Jan 23., Border Patrol received trail camera notification indicating three subjects dressed in camouflage and dark clothing carrying black backpacks were crossing the border from Canada into the United States in the area of West Kootenai, Montana, according to an affidavit from a border patrol agent contained in a criminal complaint filed in U.S District Court for the District of Montana.
FBI Investigating Officer-Involved Fatal Shooting of Illegal Alien
HIDALGO, TX – On January 29, 2021, at approximately 7:38 a.m., a United States Border Patrol agent was involved in a use-of-force incident in Hidalgo, TX, approximately one mile away from the Hidalgo Port of Entry. The agent was responding to a report of several illegal entries. The incident occurred while the agent was attempting to apprehend a subject and the agent discharged his weapon.
The suspect, an adult male, sustained a gunshot wound. Agents on scene immediately rendered aid and contacted Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The injured subject was transported to a local hospital by EMS where he was pronounced deceased at 9:00 a.m.

A man wanted in connection with Saskatoon’s ninth murder of 2020 was arrested recently while trying to unlawfully cross the border into the United States.
In a media release Friday, the Saskatoon Police Service said Afrah Ali who was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant was arrested by the United States Border Patrol last Saturday.
The Saskatoon Police Service’s Major Crime Section is now working with authorities to get Ali returned to Saskatoon.
On Aug. 25, police issued a media release saying Ali was facing a charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Logan Nayneecassum at a Saskatoon restaurant on Aug. 21. Police said they couldn’t find Ali and had put out a warrant for his arrest.
