The lineups for the upcoming AEW New Year’s Smash episodes have been revealed with some slight changes due to the fact they were pushed back.
New Year’s Smash – Night 1 on January 6.
- AEW World Championship Match: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Rey Fenix
- AEW Women’s Championship Match: Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Abadon
- The Young Bucks & SCU vs. The Acclaimed & TH2
- Cody vs. Matt Sydal

Former WWE announcer Kevin Kelly was reportedly behind the idea for the drive-thru wedding segment between Triple H and Stephanie McMahon during The Attitude Era.
Kelly told The Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast it was he and his wife who came up with the idea. I’m responsible for the relationship between Triple H and Stephanie. That’s what I’m responsible for, because I came up with the idea along with my wife. My wife is partly responsible. We’re both big soap opera fans and so the idea of Triple H bamboozling Test [Andrew Martin] and marrying Stephanie to screw over Test and also to piss off his future father-in-law is soap opera 101 and again, the similarities between the two with their hair down would be easy to do so I wrote this whole big thing up and sent it in. Tonight s AEW Dynamite episode on TNT will be a special Brodie Lee Celebration of Life show. The show was originally planned to be New Year s Smash Night 1 but was changed following the untimely death of Lee last Saturday at the age of 41 from a non-COVID-19 related lung issue.
The following matches will take place:
- Cody, Orange Cassidy and Preston 10 Vance vs. Team Taz
- Colt Cabana and AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks vs. Matt Hardy and Private Party
- Hangman Page, Alex Reynolds and John Silver vs. MJF, Santana and Ortiz
Brodie Lee Granted Ownership Of Name Days Before Passing
Jon Huber was granted ownership of the “Brodie Lee” name just days before he passed away.
The USPTO (United States Patent & Trademark Office) issued a registration certificate for the trademark filing on “Brodie Lee” on December 22. Lee passed away on December 26 at the age of 41, due to a non-COVID-19 lung issue.
Lee filed for the trademark back on November 26, 2019. He was still working for WWE as Luke Harper at that time.
Lee listed his “First Use” and “First Use In Commerce” dates as 2003. The following use description was included with the USPTO filing:
– As reported by Fightful, late professional wrestler Jon Huber, aka Brodie Lee, was granted the registration certificate for his ring name on December 22 by The United States Patent & Trademark Office. He had previously applied for the trademark on November 26, 2019 about three weeks before he was released from WWE, where he worked as Luke Harper.
Huber would later make his AEW debut being revealed as The Exalted One of The Dark Order on March 18 of this year. The registration certificate for Jonathan Huber, granting him the trademark of Brodie Lee by the USPTO is available HERE.
Huber passed away after due to a lung issue last Saturday (Dec. 26). He was 41 years old.
