The Nonantum Club closed last March due to COVID-19 for nearly four months and then again just before the holidays. Classes had been full and an after-school youth program was beginning to gain popularity.
“All that went out the window,” Gargaro said of the Adams Street gym he helped found with cousin Nathan Busa in 2008. “We went from full out to zero in a matter of weeks. It was really tough.”
Gargaro departs this week for a month-long training camp in Colorado Springs before departing June 30 for an acclimation camp in Japan. The Tokyo Olympics are scheduled for July 23 to Aug. 8.

The Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) has succeeded in its efforts to bring Olympic middleweight qualifier Eumir Felix Marcial to the United States Olympic Boxing Training Center in Colorado Springs for the last stage of his preparations for Tokyo.
Marcial was supposed to fly directly to Thailand after the ongoing Asian Championships in Dubai but the plan hit a snag because of Visa issues (Thailand now requires Visas of all foreign visitors because of the pandemic).
The other Filipino Olympians have been training in Bangkok since March.
ABAP secretary-general Ed Picson said they learned that there will be a multi-nation training camp in Colorado Springs with the 6 American Olympic qualifiers and several other countries.

On Wednesday, Jones, an Albuquerque resident, the former UFC light heavyweight champion and arguably the best MMA fighter in the sport, announced he had retained Schaefer as an advisor and perhaps as an effective go-between in Jones’ negotiations with UFC President White in an effort to get a fight (and get suitably paid) as a heavyweight.
“(Schaefer’s) knowledge and experience of the Pay Per View industry and combat sports are second to none,” Jones wrote on Instagram. “I am excited to embark on this next chapter of my career as I continue to cement my place in history as one of the greats with Richard as my adviser.
