USA TODAY Sports is marking the first anniversary of the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and eight others with a six-day series of stories, photos and videos looking back at the Lakers legend and the aftermath of his death.
Enough time has passed.
I know … I know. Who’s to say? Who is the arbiter of such a decision? Who is the official life historian in charge of deciding when we can speak truthfully of a deceased human being’s complicated legacy?

STORRS, CT – Prized recruit Saylor Poffenbarger is joining the University of Connecticut women s basketball team early.
Poffenbarger has graduated from high school and has enrolled in classes at UConn head coach Geno Auriemma announced Friday. I know Saylor s really excited. This is an unprecedented event for us for a lot of reasons, but this is an unprecedented year, Auriemma said. Opportunities have presented themselves that weren t available for the past. I m excited for Saylor and her family that they wanted to take advantage of this opportunity and I can t wait to coach her in practice and have her as part of the team.
Coaches Corner: Natasha Adair
A three-time USA Basketball coach,
Natasha Adair most recently helped the USA women to a gold medal at the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup. She also helped the USA women to gold at the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, served as a court coach at the 2017 USA Women’s U19 World Cup Team trials and spoke at the 2018 USA Basketball Las Vegas Coach Academy.
Adair is in her fourth season at the University of Delaware (2017-18 to present).
Prior to Delaware, Adair was an assistant coach at Georgetown University (1998-99 to 2003-04) and at Wake Forest University (2004-05 to 2006-07) and an associate head coach at Wake Forest (2007-08 to 2011-12); and she was a head coach at College of Charleston (2012-13 and 2013-14) and at Georgetown (2014-15 to 2016-17).

Kernersville, N.C. Just days the coronavirus pandemic halted all eight basketball state championships, the Bishop McGuinness Lady Villains were competing in the 1A eastern regional final at East Carolina University.
Bishop McGuinness had won five of its past six games prior to facing Weldon, who had one blemish in 2019-20, inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. The territory was not unfamiliar for Bishop’s girls basketball program, but surely was a different test for the 11 student-athletes. The Lady Villains had two seniors on their roster a season ago.
