It s ironic that despite all the efforts undertaken by the Games organizers to ensure the safety of Olympic athletes during the upcoming Tokyo Summer Games will likely be all for naught - as the Games seems almost pre-destined to be labeled a super spreader event after the fact.
Even though spectators have been banned from all Olympic events, a Nigerian delegate has become the first visitor to Japan admitted to the hospital after testing positive for COVID, according to local media reports.
The delegate, who isn t an athlete, is in their 60s. They tested positive Thursday as Tokyo reported a new record tally of daily new cases.

Keldon Johnson and JaVale McGee will join Team USA for the upcoming Olympics, according to ESPN s Adrian Wojarowski.
The two will reportedly replace Bradley Beal and Kevin Love. USA Basketball announced earlier this week that Beal will be unable to participate in the Tokyo Olympics after entering health and safety protocols while it was reported on Friday (ET) that Love has withdrawn, saying he s not in the absolute peak performance he needs to be in to compete at the Olympic level.

LaVine in that 108-80 win over Argentina in his first start had 15 points, five rebounds and a steal, and is one of five players on the USA team averaging in double figures including Beal and Tatum. air as Covid-19 raises its ugly head
A Nigerian delegate to the Olympics became the first visitor to the Tokyo Games to be admitted to hospital with COVID-19, broadcaster TV Asahi said yesterday, as Japan battles to stem rising local infections a week before the event.
The individual, a non-athlete in his 60s, tested positive on Thursday evening at the airport with mild symptoms but was hospitalised because of age and pre-existing conditions, the broadcaster said, without giving details.
On Friday, the Australian Olympic Committee said that tennis player Alex de Minaur, ranked 15th in the world, had tested positive prior to his departure for the Games, becoming the latest athlete to have the virus shatter his Olympics dream.
