Iced Earth guitarist/songwriter Jon Schaffer has been arrested for participating in the Jan. 6 violent storming of the U.S. Capitol by supporters of departing President Donald Trump. According to a tweet from the Indianapolis office of the FBI, Schaffer faces “6 charges including engaging in an act of physical violence in a Capitol building. Schaffer was allegedly among rioters who sprayed Capitol police with ‘bear spray. ”
Schaffer, 52, is now in federal custody after a widely distributed picture of him was posted by authorities in the days following the insurrection that has resulted in five deaths, including two Capitol police officers, one of whom, Brian Sicknick, was beaten with a fire extinguisher by the angry mob. “The Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives, the Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper of the Senate, and the United States Capitol Police shall take such actions as may be necessary to prohibit President Donald John Trump from entering the United States Capitol at any time after the expiration of his term as President,” the bill states.
