Federal murder probe opened for Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick who died following riots

(WASHINGTON) The U.S. attorney’s office in Washington has opened a federal murder investigation into the death of Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, who died Thursday night after suffering injuries in the violent siege on Capitol Hill, three law enforcement sources confirmed to ABC News.
The investigation is being conducted jointly between the FBI and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, with cooperation from U.S. Capitol Police.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family of U.S. Capitol Police officer and South River native Brian Sicknick, who died Thursday from injuries suffered in the Washington, D.C., riot and in his honor, Gov. Phil Murphy ordered all flags lowered to half-staff on Monday.
Sicknick, 42, who served in the New Jersey Air National Guard, was one of five people to die in Wednesday s attack on the U.S. Capitol building. An officer with the U.S. Capitol Police since 2008, Sicknick served most recently in the First Responder Unit.
Police have not confirmed the circumstances of Sicknick s death.
Videos published online show vastly outnumbered Capitol Police officers trying in vain to stop surging rioters, while other videos show officers not moving to stop rioters in the building.
