This does not change the fact Officer Sicknick died in the line of duty, courageously defending Congress and the Capitol, the U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement.  The United States Capitol Police will never forget Officer Sicknick’s bravery, nor the bravery of any officer on January 6, who risked their lives to defend our democracy. Nearly 140 officers were assaulted during the Capitol riot, authorities said, including 73 Capitol Police officers and 65 D.C. Metropolitan Police Department officers. Rioters were armed with ax handles, bats, metal batons, wooden poles, hockey sticks and other weapons. Two officers died by suicide, officials said.
