Columnist David Murdock offers a potpourri of items

Every once in a while, I have several short items that are neither long enough for a column by themselves nor easily grouped together either. This week is such a week, so here are several things I’ve noticed recently. First of all, I fly the American flag at my house. I don’t put it out every day, but I do fly the flag on days designated by the United States Flag Code. Before I go any further, I’ll point out that the provisions of the Flag Code are suggestions and not laws for which one can be arrested for violating a fact that frankly surprised me when I found it out. Still, I follow it voluntarily where applicable. Why? I like to see the American flag in the breeze on those days.

Lloyd E Sansom

Lloyd E. Sansom of Early, Texas passed away at home from brain cancer. Due to Covid-19 concerns, only his wife and daughter attended his burial. His wife of 55 years was presented the United States Flag while Taps was played. A small gathering will be held at a later date. Lloyd was a dual-rated fixed wing pilot who mostly flew helicopters, and before he retired from the Army as a CW-4, he managed to squeeze in and earn two Associates and one Bachelor of Science degree. He also retired from Lockheed Martin in Ft. Worth after serving his country. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Alice Elain Sansom and daughter Cheryal Gae Sansom Clark; one granddaughter, Brittany Sansom and her love, Leo King; his bonus grandchildren, Tyler Foreman and wife Danielle with their children Chloe and Keegan; Natalie Espinoza and husband Noe with their daughter, Sophie Laine. Posted on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 4:04 pm Memories of a man who was more than a soldier It was 32 degrees on Route J. on Mexico’s north side. The temperature and occasional snowflake did not seem to matter to the at least 50 people lined along the east side of the road, cars and trucks parked behind them in the Azdell Hydraulics parking lot. Many parked there were relatives, not at the funeral due to COVID-19 concerns. There were all there for one reason. They were there to honor Ron Azdell. More than 50 stood alongside Rt. J to wish Ron Azdell farewell.
