EUGENE Oregon softball enters the NCAA Tournament ranked higher than No. 12 seed Texas, its regional host.
The Ducks (37-15) are No. 10 with 469 points in the NFCA coaches poll and No. 11 with 286 points in the USA Softball poll after sweeping Cal, up from No. 11 with 468 points and No. 12 with 277 points last week, respectively.
The Longhorns (39-11) are No. 11 with 457 points and No. 13 with 239 points, respectively.
Oregon, which did not receive a national seed despite being in the top 15 in RPI, adjusted RPI and strength of schedule, is the No. 2 seed in the Austin Regional and plays against Texas State at 4:30 p.m. PT.
When Washington softball was announced as the 16-seed in the NCAA Tournament, there was no celebrating at their viewing party. Only disgust.
Before the rest of their regional could be unveiled on.

Florida State Sports Information
No. 7 Florida State softball (39-9-1, 27-5-1 ACC) advanced to the ACC Tournament semifinals with a 2-0 win over seven seed NC State (26-25, 15-23 ACC). At the plate, FSU produced six hits and a big fly was the difference. The Seminoles didn’t make an error in the field and allowed just one free pass in the circle to take home the close win.
“It is the postseason and you can see a little bit of nerves in the beginning,” head coach Lonni Alameda said following Thursday’s sun. “We ran ourselves out of a few situations but to see Devyn get after a big swing and Kalei as a freshman swinging it is really exciting to get that win under our belt. We will have a fresh mind tomorrow and keep playing Florida State softball.”

Carol Mitchell s home, or the place she s spent most of her time for the past several decades, always has been the softball field.
Gibbs High School s iconic coach, both a Tennessee Softball Coaches Association and USA Softball of Tennessee hall of famer, remembers only once since age four when she hasn t spent her spring on softball fields peppering the Volunteer State and the Southeast region. Then, last year due to COVID, that same absence happened again.
It was then that the normal cacophony of sounds at the ballpark was replaced by an entirely unnerving phenomenon: silence.
