Five Missouri high school seniors were selected as members of the 57 th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars along with 161 students from across the country. The president recognized the outstanding students listed below for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields.

Cindy Marten Education Secretary Miguel Cardona issued a statement saying he was “grateful for today’s confirmation.” The Senate vote was at 11:27 a.m. Pacific time.
Marten’s office said she will prepare to transition from the San Diego Unified School District to Washington, D.C.
Marten was honored with the San Diego Business Journal 2018 Business Woman of the Year Award and was featured in the SDBJ SD 500 this past year.
Once Marten is sworn into office, she will assume the federal post after more than three decades as an educator in San Diego, including eight years as superintendent of California’s second-largest district.

Hamilton County Schools Announce New Principals Monday, May 10, 2021 Hamilton County Schools announced several personnel updates Monday.
Andrea Johnson is the new principal at Barger Academy. She previously served as the principal at Lakeside Academy, a Level 5 school.
Ms. Johnson, a 26-year veteran of Hamilton County Schools, first joined the district as a teacher and taught for 13 years. In 2008, she moved to the district level as a secondary literacy coordinator, and later served as assistant principal at both Woodmore Elementary School and Lakeside Academy. Ms. Johnson has been the principal at Lakeside Academy since 2014, where she started a Destination Imagination class to engage students in STEM challenges, creativity, and collaboration. She is the recipient of an Annenberg Foundation Grant (2017), and made it to the Global Finals of the first Destination Imagination Competition (2015-2016).
