Our national parks are symbols of conservation, historic preservation and our shared heritage. In the last four years, as we witnessed weakened protection for cultural resources, wildlife, waterways and the list goes on, the highest level of protection was not afforded to these incredible places. We can and must do better. The Biden-Harris Administration must address climate change head-on, ensure the federal government – and the park system – is welcoming to diverse communities, and reverse damaging policies that put at risk the water, air, wildlife and other resources that make our parks world-renowned.

A recommendation from the City of Carlsbad to continue air service with a San Francisco area based airline was sent to the United States Department of Transportation (DOT).
Jan. 26 the Carlsbad City Council voted to extend the Essential Air Service (EAS) agreement with Boutique Air, which has had the contract since 2015.

The current two-year contract expires in late May.

Late last year, Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway said DOT issued a request for proposals for EAS to operate commercial flights out of the Cavern City Air Terminal.
Janway said EAS is a federal subsidy awarded to an airline offering flights to and from Carlsbad. The DOT asks for requests every few years.

If the 2020 and 2021 news cycle has made one thing clear, itâs that life is nearly impossible to predict these days. But amid the barrage of strange and generally unfavorable news, one thing remains constant: Twice a year, in most of the United States, we change our clocks. And for a few weeks every winter, many of us lament about shorter days and reduced sunlight.
Before we get into the bright spot (thereâs good news here, I promise), letâs take a little trip down memory lane. It might surprise you to learn that the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) oversees things like time zones and daylight saving time (DST). The USDOT maintains that, by moving our clocks forward one hour during warmer months and one hour back during cooler months, we save energy by shifting our electricity usage accordingly. Additionally, the USDOT says that DST saves lives by preventing traffic injuries because people can go about more of their activities during daylight. The Un
