INDIAN RIVER COUNTY In a state with a year-round swimming season and a county with 26 miles of shoreline, a handful of area nonprofits are working together to ensure minority and low-income youth are skilled and confident swimmers.
Nearly 400 children have learned to swim for free in just five years, thanks to a partnership between Float Hope of Indian River County, the Gifford Youth Achievement Center and the county s three Boys & Girls Club chapters.
Float Hope provides swimming lessons, equipment and registration to USA Swimming competitions at no cost to combat the cyclical pattern of children from low-income families not having the resources to learn how to swim, said Jeff Powers, the organiztion s chief executive officer.

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (KRDO) The 2021 Artistic Swimming Junior Olympics will take place at the Air Force Academy.
The event is happening at the Air Force Academy Cadet Natatorium from June 26 to July 3.
“Anytime we’re able to help a national governing body bring a national event to Colorado Springs is a win for the organization and for the community. This event is a great example and we are thrilled about it,” said Doug Martin, acting Chief Executive Officer of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation.

The Make a Splash Virtual Tour presented by Phillips 66 will kick off with a Facebook Live event, Swim Lessons 101 with Cullen Jones and Nathan Adrian, on Wednesday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m. EDT (2:30 p.m. PDT). The two Olympians and new dads will talk about the importance of getting kids into swim lessons and answer viewers questions.
