LAS VEGAS - Jamie Brooks of McKinney, Texas, waited long enough for his chance to become a member of the 100,000-Pin Club at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.
When the May 1 start date for the 2021 event was finalized, he was among the first in line to lock in his dates and times, which he hoped would be close to the beginning of the event, so he could complete a journey that was six decades in the making.
Brooks was able to register for the second day of the tournament, and he etched his name in the tournament record book again Sunday when he toppled his 100,000th pin during the final game of his team event at the South Point Bowling Plaza.

LAS VEGAS - As could be expected early in any event, there has been a lot of leaderboard movement over the first two days at the 2021
The first day of doubles and singles competition at the South Point Bowling Center on Sunday also yielded the first two perfect games of the young tournament, which will run for 79 consecutive days from May 1-July 18.
Tim West of Westport, Connecticut, connected for the first 300 of 2021 during his second game of singles Sunday morning, and Jeffrey Sisson of Marion, Ohio, followed suit later in the day during his opening game of singles.
Since 2015, the most 300s in a year was 13, and that came in Syracuse, New York, in 2018. The record for perfect games in a single Open Championships is 64, accomplished at the 2002 event in Billings, Montana.
LAS VEGAS - The start of the 2021
United States Bowling Congress Open Championships meant far more than just the continuation of some of the sport s most cherished traditions, and nearly 500 bowlers helped mark the return of the world s largest participatory sporting event.
The 98 teams that participated throughout the day Saturday at the South Point Bowling Plaza were the first of more than 7,700 scheduled to compete during the 79-day run of the storied event, which is the tournament s 117th edition.
The USBC Open Championships last was held in 2019, also at South Point, and it had been more than 660 days since a ball rolled down the championship lanes.
