PCGS Around the World – An 1859-O United States Double Eagle Appears in Europe
United States gold coin series, can occur in
Paris submissions as tons of United States gold moved its way to
Europe. Recently submitted in a three-coin box was an
1859-O Liberty Head $20. The 1859-O $20 is a rare coin, with only 9,100 examples minted and far fewer surviving today.
Founded in 1838 as one of the three original branch facilities of the
New Orleans Mint eventually produced over 427 million gold and silver coins representing 300 different dates and denominations. Yet, the goal of the New Orleans Mint wasn’t to craft collectibles, but rather to create money for commerce – and this could only be accomplished with bullion delivered to the mint. From this, we get several rare “O” mint coins, scarce mainly due to the lack of production. New Hampshire video game pioneer Ralph Baer has racked up another honor: He’s the only individual named in the initial set of commemorative coins issued by the U.S. Mint called 2021 American Innovation dollars.
The first four of the coins, which are not currency, honor New Hampshire, Virginia, New York and North Carolina, and were released April 7 by the United States Mint.

Type 2 American Gold Eagles Coming Soon
United States Mint was looking to change the reverse design of the
American Silver Eagle, it was not known outside the Mint that officials there were also seeking to change the reverse design of the
American Gold Eagle.
Last October, the Mint unveiled the new,
Type 2 reverse that will begin appearing on 2021 Gold Eagles around the middle of the year. This design will be featured in 2021 on bullion coins, Proofs, burnished uncirculated coins, and some special issues – including a two-coin $5, 1/10th ounce set, the details of which have not yet been revealed.

Privy Marks Take the Place of Coveted O and CC Mintmarks on Morgan Reissues
At noon on May 24, 2021, the
United States Mint will release two .999 fine uncirculated silver dollar coins, the first two honoring the centennial of the
Morgan dollar’s reintroduction. The coins each have a privy mark–“O” and “CC”, respectively–placed beneath the wreath on the reverse in place of the
New Orleans and
Carson City mint marks that appeared on the dollars struck at those facilities in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. Both dollars have a Product Limit of 175,000 coins, with household ordering limits of 25 coins.
