The building has been vacant since Dec.31, when the operators of the restaurant there were unable to reach agreement with the National Park Service on a new lease. The former operators of the restaurant, Dan and Mary Hountalas, had hired auction contractors who discovered the landmark had been burglarized on Jan. 26, the park police said.

Parked nearby are numerous vehicles, mostly pickup trucks and SUVs with out-of-state license plates. One pickup truck, with large toolbox in the back, was left running. He was among a group standing outside, in the cold, wearing hooded sweatshirts and other inconspicuous cold weather gear. None were wearing the tactical vests and helmets that militia members who charged into the Capitol that day wore.

USPP photo February 28, 2021 - On February 12, the United States Park Police (USPP) San Francisco Field Office s Criminal Investigations Unit served a search and arrest warrant in San Francisco’s Outer Richmond neighborhood. A San Francisco man was arrested and charged with the January 26 burglary of the Cliff House.   The arrest warrant was executed safely with assistance from the San Francisco Police Department’s tactical team and National Park Service law enforcement rangers. A search warrant resulted in the recovery of several items that were stolen.
