February 18, 2021 ⚾: Robby Martin Named to Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Redshirt sophomore outfielder Robby Martin was named to the Golden Spikes Award Watch List Thursday, USA Baseball announced. Martin is one of 55 players on the preseason watch list.
Martin, from Tampa, hit .315 as a freshman, with 54 runs scored and 34 RBI over 67 games. He hit 17 doubles and four home runs while splitting time as FSU’s designated hitter and in the outfield. He earned ACC Player of the Week honors after a six-RBI game against Youngstown State, FSU’s first freshman to win the ACC honor since current Baltimore Oriole DJ Stewart did it in 2013.

The principals of Albuquerque’s 13 public high schools still don’t know if any of their fall sports teams will have a season this spring.
Albuquerque Public Schools Superintendent Scott Elder met with them on Tuesday.
“As things stand currently, they might be told they can’t play fall sports,” Elder told the Journal in an interview. “As of today, we wouldn’t make it.”
The APS board meets next on Feb. 17. Elder said there is a qualifier to Tuesday’s meeting – “that we are working towards a plan that perhaps will be acceptable to allow kids to play.”

Details of the plan are unknown, but Elder did say it would be presented during the board meeting next week.

Arenado will retain player options for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, and he has agreed to a one-year contract extension for 2027 that would extend his contract to seven years in length.

BRISTOL, Tenn. The Bristol State Liners was announced as the name of Bristol’s entry in the newly-formatted Appalachian League earlier today.
The team will be operated by Bristol Baseball, Inc. (BBI). BBI is the non-profit all-volunteer charitable organization which has operated the team’s entry in the Appalachian League since 1969.
“We are proud to announce the identity of this new team and this newly-restructured league,” said BBI president Mahlon Luttrell.
“We are confident that our fans in Bristol and beyond will be pleased with the high caliber of play the State Liners will bring to the field this summer. We will have some of the top college players in the country, who as part of Major League Baseball and USA Baseball’s Prospect Development Pipeline, will be headed for the big leagues in a few years.”

BURLINGTON, N.C. Baseball in Burlington finally has its own identity. One that embraces the history of the community, and one that they can say is uniquely theirs. Burlington Baseball announced this morning via their YouTube that the long-awaited rebranding process has culminated in the team s sockingly different identity, now known as the Burlington Sock Puppets. The identity, created by Dan Simon of Studio Simon, pays homage to the rich textile tradition of this area by featuring two different sock puppets inside the primary logo.
