Sue Bird And Eddie Alvarez Chosen As Flag Bearers For Team USA

By Karina Macias Jul 21, 2021 Some sports have already started playing in the Tokyo Olympics before the opening ceremony on Friday, July 23. The International Olympic Committee is allowing national teams to have one male and one female as flag bearers. Team USA has chosen four-time Olympic basketball champion Sue Bird and baseball player Eddy Alvares will be the flag bearers. Eddi Alvarez said, It is an honor and a privilege to be named as one of the flag bearers by my fellow Team USA athletes for the Opening Ceremony. Being a first-generation Cuban-American, my story represents the American Dream. My family has sacrificed so much for me to have the opportunity to wave this flag proudly. I am grateful for my time with US Speedskating and USA Baseball, as well as for all of my teammates, and I am humbled to lead Team USA into the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Miami native Eddy Alvarez, a member of USA Baseball who qualified for the Olympics during competitions last month in West Palm Beach, was one of two athletes selected as the official flag bearers for the ceremonies.
