BOONE Sampson, with his sable-colored coat and jaunty personality, looks like any other lovable dog. He chomps on his leather tug toy and relishes chasing a ball. But the 4-year-old Czech German shepherd is a highly trained police canine who recently took third at state competition through the United States Police Canine Association.
While he had the fastest times, he was docked due to his erratic search style translation, going right to the hidden drugs, and not circling around the space first.
Sampson and his handler, Boone County Sheriff s Deputy Nate Benjamin, assist on drug searches and missing persons cases across the state of Iowa.
