The chilling preparations made by the former U S marine accused of killing his ex-partner

23:17 EDT, 21 April 2021 Ex-US Marine Brian Johnston appeared to be on a deadly mission when he arrived at the former family home around 6am last Tuesday morning.   Knives, duct tape, rope, an army camouflage duffel bag and a jerry can were allegedly found by police at the scene in the Gold Coast suburb of Arundel - suggesting frightening preparations before he allegedly killed and set his former partner Kelly Wilkinson alight while their three children were present. The items were reportedly found in the backyard beside Ms Wilkinson s burnt body, while one of three knives he was allegedly carrying was also found nearby.

04:28 EDT, 22 April 2021 75 shares Queensland Police admitted to failing Gold Coast mother-of-three Kelly Wilkinson, allegedly killed and set alight by her former partner on Tuesday morning, after she had visited a police station twice to complain he had breached the conditions of a protection order.  In a major mea culpa, Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd and Gold Coast Superintendent Rhys Wildman fronted the media to announce an internal review of the tragic case and admit that they had failed to protect Ms Wilkinson. Ultimately it s a failure, said Codd. A woman has died. She s been killed. Somewhere along the line she has engaged with the system, and we were unable to prevent this from occurring.
