The federal government appears to be moving away from its ‘technology not taxes’ climate platform after committing $1.1 billion towards clean green energy in a prebudget cash splash.
Today the Morrison government pledged $565 million towards international efforts to reduce emissions including funding for new research and the development of new technology.
The additional spending preceded an announcement the day before where the federal government allocated $540 million for clean energy technologies to lower greenhouse gasses and create 2,500 jobs.
A total of $276 million will go toward four hydrogen hubs across the country, with another $264 million allocated for carbon capture projects.
The news comes as Prime Minister Scott Morrison prepares to join a climate summit hosted by United States President Joe Biden.
